loinnir

in irish, the term loinnir means shimmer, shine or luminosity and represents small moments of joy that appear. in noticing these ephemeral moments of mundane beauty one chooses to seek out happiness all around them. this intentionality of observation builds a broader philosophy of joy that resounds through one's daily life.

in this body of work, delia displays the concept of loinnir within their personal philosophy; delia chooses to prioritize an appreciation and romanticization of the beauty of moments in the everyday. these paintings depict mundane subjects, spaces, and overlooked normalcy in the artist’s life, mostly from photographic references depicted  through impressionistic oil paintings.  by immortalizing these moments in their work, delia is calling attention to each person's ability to seek happiness and beauty all around them no matter the circumstances. noticing loinnir is a constant choice to center joy.  this project is a celebration of life and experience, drawing from the past few years of the artist's life as they dealt with mental health struggles, grief, and the dissolution of a marriage, yet were able to cultivate a philosophy of love and joy that resounds through these works.
